Anti Cancer Drugs

An anti cancer drug is a substance that is used to teat various types of cancers. The whole process of anticancer regimen is called as chemotherapy there are various agents used in the treatment of cancers. Chemotherapeutic agents may be given to treat cancers or prolong the life of a cancer patient. These modalities are often used in conjunction with other cancer treatments, such as radiation therapy, surgery, or hypothermia therapy. Some chemotherapy drugs are also used to treat other conditions, including crohn’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, multiple sclerosis and others. Traditional chemotherapeutic agents are cytotoxic and act on cancer cells but have side-effects in that they can’t differentiate between healthy and cancer cells. This means that chemotherapy also harms cells that divide rapidly under normal circumstances: cells in the bone marrow, digestive tracts, and other organs. This results in the most common side-effects of chemotherapy myleosuppression  (decreased production of blood cells, hence also immunosuppresion), mucositis (inflammation of the lining of the digestive tract), and alopecia (hair loss).
